Simplified Worship Service
Once a month we hold a worship service for people with developmental disabilities.
During the service we sing lots of songs about our Savior Jesus, or about thanking Jesus by our words and actions.  Each worshiper gets to shake a rhythm instrument during the songs—we indeed “make a joyful noise unto the Lord.”  We take time to admit that we have done bad things God doesn’t want us to do, and have failed to do some of the good things that God wants us to do.  Oh, how we smile and cheer when we hear the good news, “Jesus died for me!  God forgives me!”  We also put treasure (a memory verse) into our treasure chests (our minds).  Our Bible story with lots of pictures helps us learn about God’s love or about showing love to people.  We recite a version of the Apostles’ Creed.  We pray about things that are bothering us, and we pray the Lord’s Prayer together.
If this service sounds a lot like the fun liturgical worship that you would experience in a Lutheran church, you understand what we’re trying to accomplish.
After worship our fine volunteers hand out a snack and something to drink.
