For centuries Lutheran churches have given their children thorough instruction in the teachings of the Bible. It's a great way to prepare for life!

6th graders meet with the pastor once a week to sharpen their understanding of Bible history.  These Bible stories help Christians grasp what God means when He says, "You shall not..." and "Our Father in heaven" and "What sins should we confess?" and "I believe in God..." and "This is My body" and "...born again of water and the Spirit." Students memorize the parts of Luther's Small Catechism and complete worksheets on the selected Bible stories.

7th and 8th graders meet with the pastor weekly to delve deeper into God's Word. There's Bible passages to consider, notes to take, worksheets to fill out, memory work to learn, quizzes and tests to take. The purpose of these classes is to help young Christians mature in their faith. Someday we want them to be ready to stand at the front of the congregation and publicly claim Jesus, the Son of God, as their Savior from sin, and to promise to be a faithful disciple of the Triune God for the rest of their earthly lives.

No one is pushed to take this big step according to an artificial time table ("It's the end of your 8th grade year."). Our young people make this public profession when they are ready.

What a blessing to see young people mature in faith and take their place alongside the other adults in the congregation!

"Prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed." ~ 1 Peter 1:13
